WHAT:
On Saturday, June 4th, A Shot for Life will hold its annual Battle of the Badges, a 40-minute basketball game at Boston’s Garvey Park. Boston police officers, sporting blue jerseys, and firefighters, decked out in red, will face off to raise funds and awareness for Dr. William Curry’s work at the Translational Brain Tumor Immunology Lab at Mass General Cancer Center.
Four-year-old Conor Hennessey of Plymouth, who is currently being treated at Mass General Cancer Center for a brain tumor, will serve as the game’s honorary captain. At 2:30 p.m. Connor and his family, onboard a firetruck, will lead the procession from Boston Fire Department Engine 20 to Garvey Park, with officers representing the Boston Police Department clearing the way. Conor, an avid fan of the animated series Paw Patrol, will be greeted by the show’s “stars,” Chase (a German Shepherd police pup) and Marshall, a Dalmatian fire department pup), police officers, firefighters, elected officials, and community members.
In support of the event, the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge and other area bridges will be lit in red and blue, beginning at dusk on June 4.
