The A Shot For Life Home Run Derby is the baseball and softball counterpart to the ASFL Challenge. It is a talent based event that features the 16 best boys and the 16 best girls in Massachusetts.
The scouting process of the inaugural ASFL Home Run Derby in 2020 immediately saw many of the state’s top players vying to get selected. On September 12th and 13th our players arrived at Austin Prep High School to launch home runs over the fence for cancer research. Our boys division was highly competitive, there were several tie breakers necessary before rounds ended. Ultimately, Zach Stephenson from Bishop Feehan captured the ASFL HR Derby crown with an event-winning home run to right field through the brisk fall air. Our girls division competed the following morning. Destiny McGrath set her torrid pace from the onset of the event. In 16 minutes of hitting separated into four rounds, Destiny hit 101 home runs to capture the Girls ASFL HR Derby title. The ASFL Home Run Derby is the first step in what will become a robust baseball and softball department. Local town home run derbies for little leagues, a marathon slow pitch softball game for adults, and designated “ASFL Games” for high schools will come together to create a circuit of ASFL Baseball and Softball events. |
