ASFL First Responders Game
Boston's First Responders Answer The Call
A Shot For Life is proud to be the exclusive provider of the Battle of the Badges basketball game between the Boston Police and the Boston Fire Departments. Since 2016, Boston's First Responders have taken the court for a friendly rivalry game to benefit cancer research and they have organized BPD/BFD motorcades for children battling cancer each year. Each event features a different special guest receiving a motorcade, scoring in front of a packed house, and following the game they are presented with an MVP trophy.
“The Battle of the Badges marked the first step in the evolution of this organization from a high school basketball fundraiser into a much more well rounded organization involving players of all ages and skill levels. We are extremely proud of our relationship with the Boston Police Department and the Boston Fire Department” – ASFL CEO Mike Slonina
While the game between the First Responders gets competitive, most of the event centers around giving a child and family that is battling cancer a reprieve from their battle. When our special guest is selected, we work with their parents or guardians to find out what in particular that guest would like the most. In 2019, we learned that Saul was a big fan of Spider-Man and the Black Panther. We made some calls and brought them in for him!
Each year, the Boston skyline lights up in Red and Blue in honor of the event. The Prudential Building, TD Garden, Zakim Bridge, City Hall, and a host of others show support for the ASFL Battle of the Badges by shining its colors through the night's sky. Traditionally, the ASFL Battle of the Badges is covered by every news station in Boston.
